US Releases Declassified Jeffrey Epstein Files.
The U.S. Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has released a set of declassified files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier accused of sex trafficking. The documents, made public on Thursday, fulfill what Bondi described as “President Trump’s commitment to transparency.”
What’s in the Epstein Files?
The newly released documents include:
- An evidence list
- Flight records
- A contact book linked to Epstein’s network
These files appear to be connected to the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, who was convicted of sex crimes in 2021 and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
Bondi stated that her department initially received 200 pages of documents in response to a request for full disclosure. However, a later review uncovered “thousands of pages” of previously undisclosed materials. As a result, Bondi has directed FBI Director Kash Patel to provide the remaining files by Friday morning.
Epstein, a financier with extensive political and celebrity connections, was accused of running a sex trafficking ring for nearly three decades. His death by suicide in a New York prison in August 2019 halted his prosecution, fueling widespread conspiracy theories.
The 2023 Department of Justice Inspector General’s report concluded that Epstein’s death was due to “negligence, misconduct, and outright job performance failures” by prison staff. However, the FBI found no evidence of foul play.
The release of these files could shed more light on Epstein’s network and associates, as previous unsealed documents have named several high-profile politicians, celebrities, and business executives.
While Bondi emphasized the importance of transparency, critics question whether the newly disclosed documents will provide any groundbreaking revelations. The extent of further disclosures remains to be seen as the Justice Department awaits the full set of Epstein-related records.
