This Ex-Teacher in Maryland, US Sentenced to 30 Years for Having Sex with Student.
Melissa Curtis, a former teacher from Maryland, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, with all but 12 months suspended, after pleading guilty to sexual misconduct involving a teenage student.
Upon her release, Curtis will serve five years of supervised probation and will be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years.
Curtis, 32, turned herself in to authorities in November 2023 after allegations surfaced regarding incidents dating back to 2015.
According to court documents, the woman had sex with the victim multiple times in Montgomery County, including in Curtis’ vehicle and private residences.
Prosecutors revealed that Curtis, who had been a teacher for two years, became close to the victim while running an after-school program where the student volunteered.
The investigation found that the incidents took place over several months between January and May 2015.
The case came to light in October 2023 when the now-adult victim reported the incidents to authorities, prompting a police investigation.
Curtis later pleaded guilty in June 2024 to three counts of third-degree offenses.
