Meta Fires 20 Employees for Leaking Internal Information, More Layoffs Expected

Meta has confirmed the termination of 20 employees for leaking confidential company information to the media, as the social media giant faces scrutiny over CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent political shift toward U.S. President Donald Trump.

The company hinted that more layoffs could follow.

A Meta spokesperson stated, “We inform employees when they join the company, and provide periodic reminders, that leaking internal information is against our policies, regardless of intent.”

The company added that the recent investigation led to these terminations and warned of further actions against future violations.

The announcement follows a series of reports on Zuckerberg’s internal discussions, particularly his frustration over information leaks.

According to a report first published by The Verge, Zuckerberg expressed disappointment during an employee meeting, stating, “We try to be really open, and then everything I say leaks. It sucks.”

Since Trump’s election victory, Zuckerberg has increased his outreach to the Republican leadership. In recent months, he has eased Meta’s content moderation policies, ended Facebook’s U.S. fact-checking program, and made key leadership changes aligning with conservative views.

Notably, Zuckerberg appointed Trump ally Dana White to Meta’s board and replaced the company’s longtime political affairs chief with a prominent Republican figure. His shift aligns with the broader trend of tech leaders adjusting their positions in response to the political landscape in Washington.

Zuckerberg’s alignment with Trump comes after the former president threatened him with imprisonment following Facebook’s decision to ban him in January 2021 for inciting violence during the Capitol riots. Since then, the Meta CEO has attended private dinners with Trump, contributed to his inauguration fund, and signaled a friendlier approach toward the administration.

This shift has fueled debates within the company, with some employees concerned about the implications for Meta’s policies and corporate values. On a recent Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Zuckerberg criticized corporate culture as “pretty culturally neutered” and suggested that embracing masculine energy is beneficial.

With tensions rising over Meta’s internal policies and political alignment, analysts predict that more employee terminations and corporate restructuring could follow.
