Beware Netflix Users: Scam Alert That Could Steal Your Credit Card Details.

Cybersecurity experts have issued a warning to Netflix users about a widespread SMS phishing campaign targeting their account and credit card information.

Hackers are sending fake texts claiming there was an issue processing subscription payments and that the user’s account will be suspended unless immediate action is taken.

One of the fraudulent messages reads: “NETFLIX: There was an issue processing your payment. To keep your services active, please sign in and confirm your details at…”

The text includes a link that redirects users to a website designed to look exactly like Netflix’s official platform. Here, victims are prompted to enter their login credentials and credit card details, which are then stolen and sold on the dark web.

According to cybersecurity firm Bitdefender, these types of SMS-based phishing attacks, known as “smishing,” have become alarmingly common.

The firm notes that Netflix users are frequent targets because the streaming platform does not implement two-factor authentication. This lack of an additional security layer makes it easier for hackers to exploit credentials.

Reports suggest that the scam is active in at least 23 countries, including the United States.

Netflix has responded to the threat, reminding users that the company will never ask for personal information through text or email.

In an official statement, Netflix emphasized, “We will never request payment through a third-party vendor or website. If the text or email links to a URL that you don’t recognize, don’t tap or click it.”

For users who may have already fallen victim, Netflix recommends immediately changing their password to a strong and unique one.

Additionally, users are urged to update passwords on other accounts where the same credentials may have been used to minimize further risks.

Experts also advise users to remain cautious and avoid clicking on any suspicious links. Instead, they should manually enter the Netflix URL in their browser to verify any alerts or issues.

Simple steps like using strong passwords and enabling two-factor authentication on all accounts can offer enhanced protection against such scams.

Phishing campaigns like these highlight the importance of vigilance in today’s digital world. By staying informed and taking proactive measures, users can safeguard their personal information and avoid falling prey to cybercriminals.
