92-Year-Old UK Man Charged in 1967 Rape and Murder Case.
A 92-year-old man in the United Kingdom has been charged with the rape and murder of a woman that occurred nearly six decades ago, marking a major breakthrough in a cold case.
Louisa Dunne, aged 75, was discovered dead inside her home in Bristol, England, in June 1967. Her cause of death was recorded as strangulation and asphyxiation.
The case had remained unsolved for 57 years until Ryland Headley, a nonagenarian from Ipswich, was arrested on Tuesday.
British police revealed that the arrest followed a detailed review of the case, which began last year. This included advanced forensic examination of items tied to the investigation, ultimately leading to the charges against Headley.
Detective Inspector Dave Marchant of the Avon and Somerset police described the development as a significant step in the long-standing investigation.
“We’ve updated Louisa’s family about this charging decision, and a specialist liaison officer will continue to support them in the coming days, weeks, and months,” he said.
Headley appeared in Bristol court on Wednesday via video link, where he was remanded in custody. He has yet to enter pleas to the charges of murder and rape.
For Louisa Dunne’s family, it marks a significant step toward justice after decades of unanswered questions.
